Who is Silent Elephant “e”?
He is my beloved puppet, who since 1976, has been helping me teach the phonics rule VCe to hundreds of children by engaging all parts of their brain and body to actively learn the VCe rule. The program is laid out in multiple parts:
Part 1: Phonemic Awareness—the foundation of reading
The most often missing skill in struggling or nonreaders is the ability to connect sight to sounds. It is the most important first step for ALL learners but especially dyslexics.
In Silent Elephant “e” ® students achieve phonemic awareness by moving colored squares on game boards in 47 multi-sensory lessons.
Parts 3 – 14: Teach phonics using researched based strategies for reading in a precisely organized, systematic, progressive sequence
ALL children, especially dyslexics, need personal whole-body interaction with phonics rules to understand the relationship of a phonics rule to its application in reading.
In Silent Elephant “e” ® abstract phonics rules become clearly conceptual and comprehensible to ALL learners in lessons using colorful, visual, kinesthetic, concrete methods utilizing the five senses and whole body.
